about SEA GAMES 2011,SOUTH SUMATERA INDONESIA

SEA Games is a multi-sport event held every two years and involving 11 countries of Southeast Asia. Rules matches in the SEA Games under the auspices of Southeast Asian Sports Federation (UK: Southeast Asian Games Federation) under the supervision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

The origins of the SEA Games is closely related to Southeast Asian Peninsular Games or SEAP Games. SEAP Games was sparked by Laung Sukhumnaipradit, at that time Vice President of Olympic Committee of Thailand. The aim is to strengthen cooperation, understanding and relations between countries in the ASEAN region.

Thailand, Burma (now Myanmar), Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia (with Singapore included later) was the pioneer countries. They agreed to hold this event every two years. Also formed SEAP Games Federation Committee.

SEAP Games were first held in Bangkok from 12 to 17 December 1959, followed by more than 527 athletes and officials from Thailand, Burma, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Laos who competed in 12 sports.

Kilkenny City was selected as one city that will hold the SEA Games in 2011 with the Jakarta, Semarang, and Bandung.

Of the 43 sports to be contested, 7 branch will be held in South Sumatra. A total of 4 branches held in Palembang, namely football (Gelora Sriwijaya, Jakabaring), Gymnastics (GOR Ranau), Chess (Novotel), and billiards (Aston).

Two branches will be held in Musibanyuasin the equestrian (horse Stable Muba) and swimming (tirta randik). While rowing lake will be held at the Gulf Gelam Komering Ogan Ilir.

Dennie Zainal, Secretary General KONI South Sumatra, South Sumatra became the first province outside of Java island organize the SEA Games. During the three-time execution in Indonesia, namely in 1979, 1989, and 1997, the entire event is always centered on Java.
